Big Brother Big Sister's goal is to provide kids with mentors who provide meaningful friendships and share fun experiences. Jointly the partnership will provide quality educational enhancement programming for kids in a positive and nurturing online/offline environment with adult supervision and support. |
Why This Program Works Well For BBBS. |
There is also an excellent strategic element to the partnership as the program will be an excellent communications vehicle to reinforce the relevance of BBBS in communities and the growing opportunities for people to participate in working with kids. |
How BBBS Can Get Started. |
The "Resource Center" is a good starting point with a number of interesting activities for kids to develop business skills. You may want to start with the Resume section with the goal of creating a starting point and then seeing how it develops as you work through the activities. Each activity can be enjoyed by young and old and revisited over time. There are fun activities like our Improv and Doodle or more serious activities like Recommendation Writing and much more. Our e-Mentoring Program For Kids is an excellent resource to explore career profiles. All the activities have a purpose, each child will develop skills and have the opportunity for self-discovery. The "Business Encounter" section is developing as a way to provide kids with experience. You could help introduce your Little Brother or Sister to responsibilities in our "Career Experience" section where we are creating opportunities to give kids real job-like experience. The "Caddie Program" is an excellent opportunity to gain actual job experience and career preparation. You could have your Little Brother or Sister caddie for you or you could work as a team and caddie at a local golf course. TeachingKidsBusiness.com is working on developing a national caddie event for fund raising and experience for Little Brothers and Sisters. There are other ways to gain experience in our Business Case Studies where you can act as a "business team" that interviews a local business. Your findings will be an amazing experience that we hope you will share on the website for other kids to benefit. In addition, we have created Just For Clicks Business Game that is intended to celebrate the efforts of developing business skills and learning about business. The game allows kids to go through a process of developing a business with a "digital product". You can have a lot of fun and reward from acting as a business advisor and experiencing their first business venture. Try our songwriting program and help other kids learn life skills through music. Our business club and book club are excellent activities for groups of kids. Our "Kids-Works-Ventures Program" is an interesting initiative for community members to partner with kids. The "Community Involvement" section has been developed to facility support from our community and engage kids to work with their community. If you want to expose a child to philanthropic activities, then this would be a good area to explore. The essence of this section is to act as a team to develop a plan to engage people in helping kids prepare for their careers. There are many wonderful resources in our communities who would be happy to give a little of their time to help kids prepare for their careers. This is a great opportunity to involve potential Big Brothers, Big Sisters and seniors! In addition, we are working on a "Kid's Community Service Program" to create some specific initiatives for school community service requirements. If you explore the website you will find many other opportunities for quality programming and quality time with your Little Brother or Sister. We have created a fundraising initiative that would benefit your organization. |
We hope that you find this program to be very interactive, educational and simply enjoyable times that you can experience with your Little Brother or Sister. For those that don't have access to the website, please print off some pages and share it with them. Enjoy! Jeff M.
