Have you ever really though about sports.  I mean beyond the goal you score, the last win or loss.  I love sports and decided to think about why so many people like sports.  I started talking to team mates, friends,  parents, listened to interviews and did some internet surfing.  I was surprised at all the different reasons people like sports.

Well here I go. Fun ,was number one on the list. Many kids have a blast playing sports.

There was not a clear number two but, I think it is the competition.  Kids like to test their skills and compete against others.  Depending on the sport, some are more competitive then others.

Exercise was a big one with the parents.  I don't think that kids think that they we are playing a game to get exercise, but since exercise is a good thing it is a good way to get it.

Many kids are in sports to keep Mom and Dad happy.  I was surprised that this happens so much.  Moms and Dads seem to know best, so they may be on to something with sports.  I think they should listen to kids and a least find a sport that the kids like.

I have heard this one from coaches and parents. Sports will keep kids off the street and out of malls etc.  I have also heard that kids don't get in trouble playing sports.  Maybe sports can help reduce crime and stuff like that.

I now know that there is a lot more to sports.
