Parenting Business Preparation For Kids

Parenting can be one of the most challenging and rewarding things you are faced with. We all practice different approaches to parenting based on our own upbringing, experiences we have had, influences from our beliefs and  our society, research, education and "trial and error".

It is safe to say there is no right answer for the way of parenting, as we are all faced with different children, environments and other unique variables.

One important component of parenting is the responsibility of preparing your child for business - for their future as independent people. Let's assume business includes careers in business and/or running a business. We all know from our own experiences that it is common for people to be uncertain on what they want to do in life . I suggest we consider discussing business with kids at an early age. Help kids understand the world in terms of jobs and businesses.

Make kids aware of business. Kids are very inquisative by nature and if you introduce them to business they will undoubtedly have lots of questions.

Help kids understand their strengths, weaknesses and interests. Help them develop skills that are needed for the things that interest them.

Kids are exposed to sports, art and music as common extra curricular activities. Kids watch tv, play games, sports but do not spend time on developing skills for business and careers. (organization skills, time management, thinking skills, effective communications, developing ideas, leadership, responsibility.)

Having a balanced life is very common concern for all parents.

We all want to expose kids to other interests that develop them and allow them to enjoy other things. It is healthy and makes us much more interesting if we have other exposures.

I have looked at hundreds of resumes from kids in grade 3 to grade 12 and commonly find an important missing component - lack of "experience opportunities". In general, kids are not given the opportunity to develop skills and experience at an early age. They often say that they want to responsibility and experience.
