TeachingKidsBusiness.com Launches Kids into Business - October 23,2000

If you think parenting isn't challenging enough, just wait until your child asks you to assume the role of "Business Partner", "Angel Investor", "Mentor", or "Advisor" to their "business experience" in the Just For Clicks Business Game. You can also expect them to offer their recommendations to you and take other business-like approaches to the operation of your household.  These influences and more are being delivered through TeachingKidsBusiness.com.

The site www.teachingkidsbusiness.com, is launching October 23rd, with a focus placed on providing kids with a safe, fun, educational non-commercial and forward thinking website.  Our objective with this site is to supply kids from ages 9-14, with the "tools" and "experience" to develop their business skills and explore career paths at an early age.

The "tools" section includes an "e-Mentoring Program for Kids", which provides them with a look at a variety of jobs.  This "e-Mentoring Program", generates community involvement, by requesting that individuals respond to a series of questions in an on-line form, thereby creating a career profile.  This "tool" assists kids in understanding varied career choices on a very personal level.

The "Kids Resume Development Program" is a "tool" developed primarily to expose kids to the art of resume building in a fun and engaging way.  Kids will watch their resumes develop further over each year, as they progress from making their beds, to eventually holding "paid positions".

The "Kid's Idea Recommendation Tool" will be an interesting addition to your household.  We are equipping kids with a "tool" that assists them in organizing their thoughts and putting them to paper (or computer) in the form of a recommendation.  Remember that allowance increase your child has been nagging you for?  Well, be prepared to receive a recommendation that presents the rationale as to why it is a good idea!

The "What's Your Business Thing Program" leads kids through a self-discovery process, to help them become aware of things they like and may possible want to pursue career-wise, or as a business venture going forward.

The "Anecdotes" tool exposes kids to some very inspiring statements.  "Food for thought", if you will.  Adults will surely get as much out of this section as the kids.  When you read through these with your children, you will be amazed at the questions and thoughts that are provoked.

The "Terminology" section is dedicated to listing common business terms, but with a twist.  Each term is defined in such a way, as it relates to the kid's "Business Game" and to the "KidsE-Marketplace", currently under development.  This is only the beginning, as there are a number of interesting "tools" in the works!

Once kids have worked through these "tools" and are ready to apply them, they can graduate on to the "Experience" section of the "Business Encounters" page.  We can all appreciate how difficult it is to gain business experience between the ages of 8 and 18.  At TeachingKidsBusiness.com, we took care to be very creative, in the hopes of making it appealing to kids while still providing them with a meaningful experience.

The "Just for Clicks Business Game" is being developed to allow kids to place themselves in a business-like environment. They will be able to create a product (information only), set up a "Business Game Name" (company name), create an advertising campaign for their product and participate in other business-related decisions.  There are a number of "Business Tips" available for them to utilize during this development process.  The kids will succeed with every step they take in this business venture.

In addition, the Game is an excellent confidence builder, in that it will unleash your child's entrepreneurial spirit and help guide them along their path to an aspiring future career.

Kids will then be given the opportunity to take their product to a kids' Marketplace.  Once their company is named and the product decided, they will have the option (at a cost yet to be determined) to launch their business in the TeachingKidsBusiness.com "KidsE-Marketplace", where they can market to other kids. This will be a very unique Marketplace, where the kids will be protected from any direct communication (for their safety), the content collected is screened and deemed appropriate, prior to being released onto the site and where kids will be the driving force behind the Marketplace!  Stay tuned for the launch of "KidsE-Marketplace.com", as kids will be doing the marketing and promotion.  Please support them!

Another interesting way of gaining experience is through the "Business Case Studies".  The kids will be provided with some ideas on how to investigate a company on their own. They will learn to interview businesses in a context that is relevant to them.

In the "Career Experience" section, kids will be able to actually assume job-like responsibilities.  They will be given a position or responsibility and recognized through the issue of a "TeachingKidsBusiness.com Experience Certificate.  It's a great way to log experience for their resume at an early age!

The "Caddie for Kids Business Program" is a creative way of using the sport of golf, to expose kids to business.  As we develop this program further, we will be asking kids to caddie; not only for potential start-up capital for their businesses, but to teach them to use the four hours on the course to ask questions and talk about business.

Key to the success of the website, is the "Community Involvement" plan.  We hope to engage an infinite number of community groups, to offer up some of their time to share information with kids.  We as a community, have so much to offer our youth and we can provide it through this website in a number of areas.  One example is learning through our seniors.  These experienced people, have so much insight and advice they can share with our kids, that will promote their understanding of things such as success and a balance of life.  There are a number of other community groups identified in the "Community Involvement" section, which will enhance this initiative.

TeachingKidsBusiness.com is developing well integrated Shareholder and Charity strategies.  Our plan is to have kids obtain shares in the company and experience first-hand what it is to be a Shareholder and participate in decision making via on-line forms.  The "Charity" strategy will instill giving at an early age and hopefully, demonstrate leadership to other corporations.

Founder, Jeff M. Brown of Markham, Ontario, Canada encourages all parents to set aside time to invest in their children's future, by helping them start to discover their potential and all of the exciting opportunities that await them.  "The website is launching today, however, there are still a number of exciting pieces currently under development.  Our hope is that TeachingKidsBusiness.com will encourage kids to take steps toward developing business skills and experimenting with career paths at an early age.  We will all be amazed at what our kids can accomplish, given the proper tools, experience and our support.  We have created a starting point for a great concept that has the potential to be a kid's driven "phenomena".  Now we need to work hard to put the necessary resources in place, to ensure that TeachingKidsBusiness.com succeeds".
